Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Summary:
I have been struggling with a mood disorder for some time now. During both Fall and Winter term, the stress of schoolwork and changes in medication alongside my declining mental health caused me to stop attending class, and subsequently failing 3 of 4 courses both terms (this is completely out of character for me; I had a 3.6 GPA first year).
Important details:
- I accessed mental health resources at Queen's as well as mental health resources in Kingston (see supporting documentation), but my mental health continued to decline.
- I was promised mental health support through OneLink, had the initial phone call appointment, but no phone calls following this.
- During the Winter term, a psychiatrist at Queen's (I don't recall his name) diagnosed me with Borderline Personality Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Over the summer and during the Fall Term, I was able to better focus on my mental health, receive proper medication and learn coping mechanisms, which allows me to be my best academic self (as I have been this semester)
- Now that I am back in the swing of thing, I am able to formulate this appeal (which is why I am requesting the 21-day wave)
- I hope this is enough information, but if there are any clarifications or other details required, please feel free to send me an email: 16kat4@queensu.ca.

Amendment to Appeal 6525
Relevant Petition: 6525
New Information: In December of 2018, I had a really hard time coping. I spoke to several doctors and therapists, and was diagnosed by a psychiatrist at Queen's in April of 2019 with Borderline Personality Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Following this, I began to see Dr. Campbell (also at Queen's) and I was prescribed new medication for both mood and sleep. Adjusting to these medications was difficult. During this past summer and fall, now with the support of a psychologist, psychiatrist, and my family I am able to be my best self, and think clearly. So I am appealing the courses I failed now, now that I am recovering and have solid support.
The grades I received during both the Fall and Winter Term of 2018-2019 were very out of character for me. I had a 3.6 GPA first year. My grades are now again slowly improving.
If there is more specific details need, please email me: 16kat4@queensu.ca
