Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I, Edward Zhang, am writing this letter in order to get an appeal to drop my COMM 200 mark from my transcript. Due to the fact that most of the group members rated me low on the peer evaluation, my marks were significantly lower than what the other members got. When the group got an assignment mark of 80, I got an assignment mark of 8 and I believe that the marks that I got and the comments that I received from the evaluations were unjustified and over-exaggerated.

There were comments that said that I wasn't there for the group meetings or that I didn't even respond to the nonstop messages that they were throwing my way. In other photos, I can show that on the group discussion page on smithlearning, I responded quickly to the team when they did post a message and tried to respond quickly to the Facebook group. The nonstop messages part was a huge exaggeration as you can see from the photos that they only really posted a few messages trying to get the team together. They also happened to add the wrong Edward Zhang to the actual Facebook group chat leading me to not receive any of the messages that they might have sent that other Edward Zhang.

There were also comments saying that I didn't contribute anything until the final video. This was an unfair evaluation as well. In the photos that I provide, I will be highlighting all of the parts that I did by myself without any help from others.
For the strategy memo at the start, I helped write about how we wanted the brand of our company to be like Apple in the quality of our services and products. I also described later on how we would achieve that by increasing our promotional and sales budget. The whole thing was a team effort by two other members and me where we each took some of each other's ideas and edited it to make it the best that we could. Since I didn't state clearly in the group chat that I provided some ideas for it, the other 3 probably thought I didn't contribute anything for this section.
For our team case, we tried to split the course work evenly but because I felt bad, I wanted to do a bit more so I first did the entire question of f where it asked about the company's use of financing as well as the bonus question as well as adding information and parts of the editing of question c.
For the final video component, I also felt bad about the Capsim mark so I did more of the questions that I originally had leading me to take up 3 minutes of the whole 11 minutes of our presentation.

For the actual Capsim meetings, I can agree that I didn't show up the most out of the other members but the accusation that I was unprepared or provided zero contribution is a blatant lie. For most of the meetings, I could tell that one of my group members had some ill feelings towards me as they spoke with a condescending tone all of the time and tried to find some error in every sentence that I spoke. It also felt like she was the leader of the group and could have coerced the others into giving me a poor peer evaluation.
All of this lead me to have a very uncomfortable time actually participating in meetings but I still managed to contribute a bit like suggesting to issue company stocks when we were low on funds or to decrease production levels when we already had so much in our inventory. Even in the meetings that I wasn't here for, I was always online and ready in case they wanted to ask me any questions pertaining to the decisions. There was a comment that said that the others met up around 20 times but looking through the group chat, they only met up around 7 times and only for the Capsim decision.

I realized that I could have also done things earlier in the fall term to make sure that this didn't happen such as telling my professors about the issues and then maybe I could have switch groups and this would have never happened. As a student with usually above average grades, I believe that the comments do not describe how I usually do my work and I hope that you may also be able to see it that way.
