Dear Associate Dean,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter of appeal to you to request an extension of my incomplete POLS 250 grade. This course is being completed with Professor Farrelly. Professor Farrelly, several Queen¿¿s staff members and I, have come to an agreement to facilitate my completion of the POLS 250 course. With this agreement, I would be able to keep my Fall 2019 semester grades and complete the Winter portion of POLS 250 in the 2021 semester. I hope I can rely upon your support for this agreement as well.
This cause for this appeal is due to some very unfortunate family circumstances. In August my mother was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, in my home city of Vancouver. I attended Queen¿¿s this Fall because my family had yet to gain a complete picture of what her condition would be like. Unfortunately, that picture is very clear now. Her cancer has progressed severely in recent weeks and she is now clearly terminally ill with not long to live. Obviously, supporting my mom and my family in Vancouver is my main priority right now. I am also expecting a period of bereavement following her passing. Therefore, it is of my opinion that it is not in my best physical, mental, familial and academic interest to be at Queen¿¿s this semester. As such, I have been in Vancouver since early January and have no immediate plans to return to Queen¿¿s for this academic year.
Despite my family hardship this year, I dedicated myself to my studies at Queen¿¿s and was able to maintain my 3.8 GPA this semester. I bring this up only to say that I have always worked hard at Queen¿¿s and wish to continue doing so, but only under more settled circumstances. I would really appreciate the approval of the extension of my incomplete POLS 250 grade until the Winter term of 2021.
