Petition Letter: Hello Associate Dean,
I am writing to you today in hopes to appeal an Incomplete grade on my final exam in ECON 223. This is because I was unable to attend the exam in Summer 2019, due two deaths in my family of my grandparents ( mothers adopted parents). My grandmother passed while I was still attending school in October 2019. My grandfather (her husband) passed August 2019 with health complications occurring throughout whole summer. My family often had to aid my grandfather throughout many hospital visits.
The week of the final exam in summer 2019 my grandfather was extremely ill as he passed away that week. Further, these deaths caused my parents to divorce in the same summer after the death of my grandfather. The divorce caused me to have to move out as my parents both moved in different cities. I was then living at a family friends house, financially struggling in as I was trying to find employment to return to school and pay off outstanding tuition debt. I was told that I must travel to Kingston to write the exam as I was not allowed to write in exam centre in Toronto. At the time, I had no money to travel and would be forced to not eat if I went to Kingston. Megabus and train tickets would be 100-150 round trip which I could not afford at the time. I am now currently enrolled as full time student at Queen's and wish to complete my BA in economics as this is my last semester to graduate. ECON 223 is mandatory elective for my degree plan, which is hope to write exam as I've completed all the course work and assignments throughout Summer 2019.
