Petition Letter: I¿¿m appealing to be able to drop ECON 452 and ECON 332 after the drop deadline.
My circumstances are both ongoing and extenuating. I am currently registered with QSAS and have been in contact with them throughout the semester looking for guidance and support to see if I would be able to resolve the issue and continue my studies. Last year in September 2018 I became ill, by December it was necessary for me to take some time off due to extenuating circumstances. After taking a break from December 2018 to September 2019 I came back for the fall semester able and ready to thrive back at Queen¿¿s. My fall semester was successful besides the usual stress and minimal setbacks, but unfortunately when coming back in January for winter term 2020 my circumstances changed. I had no reason to think that I would undergo a relapse, but as soon as it was noticed that it was beyond my scope of control without my support system beside me, I got an STAA from QSAS from February 1st to February 23rd. During this time, I went home, spending time with family, my physician and other medical support members to try and rebuild and recover to a point in which I would be able to come back and finish the semester. Once STAA had expired I returned to campus, deciding to withdraw from 2 courses but stay in 2 courses to see if a lighter course load would help my circumstance. Unfortunately, within the week of being back things reverted back to an unhealthy mental and physical state making me unable to participate in academic student life. My illness has made me unable to attend class or complete work. My plan from here forward is to go home and seek further treatment through my support system until my circumstances are resolved and I am able to actively and healthily participate within the Queen¿¿s community. As for future plans, once I am healthy I would love to start up again at Queen¿¿s, however if that¿¿s not possible I will be looking into transferring to an institution that is closer to home to have more access to family and support.
