Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I am requesting to remove a letter grade from my transcript that was a result of some extenuating circumstances in the fall of 2017. The only course that was affected in this period was HIST 200, the reason for this is that the content of the course was sensitive, Bengal famine, the content was heavy in terms of load and I could not focus on it because of what was going on in my personal life. I am now requesting this because I had no idea this could have been done until I spoke with my academic advisor, Kerri Andrews, on March 3rd, 2020.
In fall 2017, I was going through a tumultuous relationship with my wife that caused me mental distress. I was new to Canada since I was only here for 1 and years. My wife had sponsored me in November of 2015. After I arrived, she began to act controlling. If I did not comply with her requests, she would continuously abuse me physically by hitting me and psychologically by throwing my clothes out and telling me she will report me to Citizenship and Immigration Canada so they will revoke my permanent residency. She went on to call immigration which placed me in a predicament. Luckily, what she reported was not true and I had the documentation to prove it. I sent the documentations in to Immigration and I was exemption from the condition I had to live with her for 2 years. In addition, she was arrested, and I was left alone with our child for which I had no support because I have no family except my then-wife and child in Canada. This weighed heavily on me. With the added pressure in my personal life and the course content I could not get to do my best on this course. I struggled but I was determined to further my education. The only reason I did good in the other courses is reliant on the fact that I consider myself to be an effective writer in essays and I had already done biology at the University of the West Indies. I was ashamed therefore, this was never reported to any school officials. I am requesting that my privacy be maintained.
Below I have included documents to substantiate my claims.
