Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing this letter to you with the intention of appealing to drop Organic Chemistry I (Chem 281) from my fall term after the academic deadline. My academic performance was greatly affected by my physical and mental condition as well as the subsequent medication I was prescribed to assuage the symptoms.
For the past few months, including the very recent Fall term, I had several health concerns that hindered my academic performance. My mental and physical state had deteriorated greatly, up to the point where I had trouble concentrating on, attempting, and properly tending to my academic affairs. I started to neglect my health and developed a poor appetite, excessive weight-gain, and generally, a very unhealthy lifestyle.
Due to the aforementioned health concerns, I had to undergo medicinal and psychiatric therapy with several doctors. Consequently, the medication itself also had a profound effect on my health, as it negatively affected my sleeping pattern, cognitive ability and eating habits, which made it very difficult to attempt my coursework and properly attend classes and exams. Travelling to university itself became a very formidable and arduous task. As a result, I rarely attended class and was unable to attend a few tests and exams, not only for the subject at hand, but for some of the other fall term classes I enrolled in as well. In the end, I was unable to properly partake in my classes and maintain steady grades for the Fall term.
As far as the Winter term is concerned, I have commenced a new form of therapy with my psychiatrist accompanied by different medication. As such, I hope that it will improve my current condition, and furthermore, ensure that I properly attend classes, complete coursework, and excel both within and outside university.
