Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hi,
I am writing to request my teacher to grade my End-of-term Self-assessment and Reflection Survey. I was under the impression that late submissions were allowed in this class; they were just subject to penalty marks. The course syllabus reads, With the exception of the Weekly Discussion Forum and Module Quiz activities, late assignment submissions are accepted up to four days after the due date (or after the end of the grace period, if there is one), but they will be penalized 10 points of the total possible grade per day (or part thereof). This assignment was not a discussion forum or quiz. The outline of the assignment reads, Short writing assignment prompts you to reflect on your experience of and accomplishments in the course. Assignment receives a letter grade. 72-hour grace period. Email submissions not accepted. Nowhere in the syllabus did it say no late submissions would be graded for this assignment. Due to the unclear language in the syllabus, I thought I could hand in this assignment one day after it was due. Professor Matrix responded to my emails saying no late submissions and that I will receive a zero. This assignment is worth 10 percent of my grade. When I emailed further to explain why I thought I could submit late, she did not show me where I was mistaken and said: Hello I have already answered your question. I am an excellent student in her class, and I care a lot about my grades. I think losing 10 percent because of this is not fair due to the language she used in her syllabus. I am really hoping my assignment can be marked, and I can receive some grades for this assignment. I understand that I should be deducted late marks, but to receive a zero feels very unfair. In no way am I trying to cheat the system or anything of that sort, I respect Professor Matrix and really enjoy her classes. I hope that she could reconsider her decision to give me a zero and accept my assignment.
This assignment was due on April 20th. It took me some time to submit this appeal because I did not know this process existed.
Also, I would be willing to forward my emails with Professor. Matrix along to anyone who would like to see them.
Thanks for your consideration,
Grace Wigmore
