Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I understand that this appeal is long overdue it has been one hectic year full of many ups and downs and I thankyou for your time in reading this considering the circumstances. I am appealing my POLS 384 Research methods grade for an AG (agretate standing) Fall 2019 with full support from my professor due to the circumstances endured last semester.
Extenuating circumstances beyond my control impeded my abilities to preform to the best of my academic abilities in general for my courses but more specifically in POLS 384 due to an assignment I was unable to complete for many reasons even until this day.
Last semester I experienced severe trauma due to a housemate having undiagnosed borderline personality disorder that severely impacted my mental and physical health to the point where I was unable to complete schoolwork in general specifically the culminating for POLS 384. There were many factors as a result of this. This unprecedented behaviour was nothing I had ever experienced before. I am an individual who already suffers with anxiety/ADHD having a psychological analysis done on me in my first year at Queens due to a checkup on my Shaken Baby Syndrome. It began with one of my old housemates moved out thus we had to find someone to fill her spot and this individual was completely emotionally and mentally draining.
The extent of the emotional toll resulted in my feeling of sadness and lack of motivation as I lost my focus on school. Someone who suffers from anxiety I started to fall behind on school from the distressing conversations I was having every night impeded on my ability to do my studies With her threats of suicide I was emotionally blackmailed into listening, on many occasions suggesting to go talk to someone or go to the peer support centre making me upset. Physical threats on me when I no longer payed attention to the conversations made me fear for my safety as I did not want to stay at the house later buying a chain bolt for my door my anxiety was amplified. I was missing classes trying to sleep or spend class time in the library trying to catch up on assignments I was behind in. Leaving many parts out as there is much more to it. I was severely traumatized during those months. After seeking help to figure out how to alleviate the situation and getting a diagnosis for what was going on was I bought a chain bolt for my I didn¿¿t want the guilt that she told people she wanted to die because of me. Finally mustering up the courage to tell the rest of my house what was happening the next day was when my other housemates took her to KGH after an assessment she was checked into the psych ward. This was around the beginning to mid-November. This night was the first deadline I had for the culminating assignment due for POLS 384 and was too distraught to think about completing Seeking student wellness that week explaining to them what was going on I got a letter of accommodation however it did not prove to be enough as the individual was still living across from me meaning the extenuating circumstances were ongoing.
After attempts of catching up in my other classes, maintain my high involvement in school clubs to take my mind off of it and due previous commitments as well as attending other meetings to figure out the best course of action to take with my housemate with BPD I was in an accident (report was filed at campus security) I was struggling. My body began to feel the hit as well as I had fainted and had chest pain I went to the hospital. Further taking time away to do my assignment and study for my exams as it was in early December. At the beginning of this second semester (winter) I was doing my best to catch up and tie up loose ends from course work last semester. Contracting a viral infection which landed me in the hospital again this past January not only was I trying to catch up from Fall still but have a better start to my Winter semester. After having a conversation with that my professor for this particular course he simply said apply for the AG would be my best bet and to refocus my attention on doing well this semester as it wouldn¿¿t be worth my while in doing it since I was already behind.
1. Threats of committing suicide while I was trying to do homework in my room at night, making me scared to come back to my room for what would happen next (emotional blackmail)
2. Harassment overall causing my inability to focus.
3. Traumatic incidences where I was loosing sleep: waking up in the middle of the night seeing she was in my room watching me
4. Threats to my safety at night (chain bolt and lock were installed on my door) causing me to skip class as I would have to catch up on assignments I couldn¿¿t work on at my house.
5. Meetings with Deans and on campus counsellors having group counselling sessions, meeting with landlords and legal personnel as there were legal threats involved among many other factors that are personal and in depth.
Why this course
