Petition Letter
Petition Letter: The subject of my appeal is adding a course after the academic deadline. The class I need to add is Math 121. I am in a difficult situation, as I don't have the summer course that I need (MATH 121) in order to be eligible for mandatory Economics courses next year. I found this out a day after the adding a course deadline. I understand that this is my responsibility, but for the past few weeks I haven't exactly been in a healthy physical condition and able to stay on top of things like I usually am able to. When the pandemic hit, I left Canada to visit my family in Jordan, and when I arrived I was relocated to a mandatory government provided isolated quarantine for 15 days. After that I was sent to my family, and after a few days I became very ill, putting my family and myself in a very worrying situation. I was not feeling well for a number of weeks, and was tested for COVID-19 a few days ago after showing symptoms. I thankfully tested negative. I have a medical report that documents this. These past few weeks have been a nightmare, and with my leaving campus early, and with everything that happened to me from quarantine to being struck with illness, I was not able to follow up on my eligibility for next year and correctly choose my summer courses. I had a doctor come to my home and I was diagnosed with acute tonsillitis on the 10th of April and was given antibiotics, and after continued poor health conditions and suspicion of having COVID-19, I was tested for it on the 13th of May. During these times I was not able to stay on top of things and have my typical awareness.
Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Since my appeal is not associated with failure in academic courses and a plan for success in that regard, this plan is directly related to the extenuating circumstance that lead to my failure in adding the summer course that I needed in order to fulfill the pre-requites of the mandatory second year courses I must take next year in my path to gaining an Economics degree. I have faced poor health conditions for the span of a few weeks, dating from the first week of April to the past couple of days. I have appropriately sought medical care and assistance during this time, and will continue with checking up with medical professionals as a part of taking further precautionary procedures and to prevent any possible relapses concerning my health. Thankfully my illness is not chronic and will not be ongoing in the future, it was just a matter of being struck with a temporary illness that happened to span across several weeks. This prolonged illness could've possibly been due to exhaustion and an accumulation of different health conditions. With that being said, I will be checking in with doctors in the upcoming future to ensure that I am taking all necessary actions in order to make sure that I am physically healthy and prepared to carry on with my life normally and to tackle this summer term and the upcoming fall term. My medical report documents my specific diagnosis. My doctor said that I should be fine now and able to carry on normally. I have been advised to try and maintain a healthy lifestyle (eating well, taking vitamins etc.) to regain my energy and get back on track.
