Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Board of Studies,
I would like to register for 3 courses for this May-August semester. In November of 2019 I suffered a mental health crisis and since then have not been to continue my studies I have been working with a team of professionals to get myself healthy and able to go back to school. My physician and I came up with the plan of taking courses in the summer to keep me occupied and grounded during this global crisis. We discussed taking HLTH 101, RELS 131 and ARTH 120. These are all first-level courses I believe I could do well in. Currently, I have been doing all the work and assignments for these courses with my housemates who are taking those courses and have been providing me with the materials from their OnQ. I essentially have been doing all the necessary work and studying for the course however was simply not officially enrolled and able to submit assignments.
As for an explanation as to why I didn¿¿t contact the school sooner, in the first week of May I lost my uncle and held the responsibility of travelling to Toronto to get his affairs in order and plan for a funeral after the COVID-19 crisis. Given my road to recovery and family death, I couldn¿¿t bring myself to write an email or contact a faculty member. I typically have not received support or understanding from other authorities or institutions when it comes to my mental illness. Given my history and nature of my condition, I am afraid of being rejected or denied, however, I know I need your help to get me to where I need to be.
I cannot express enough how critical it would be to my wellbeing to be able to take these courses and return to some normalcy. I plan on graduating in the summer of 2021 and I truly will do whatever it takes to make that happen. I would be so grateful to be given the opportunity to take these courses
I would be happy to answer any questions and send any required medical documents. Thank you so much for your consideration I look forward to your response and hope you are all doing well and are safe
Sincerely,
Kathleen Caulfield (20071506)
