Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to appeal my failing grade in WRIT 120 and LIBS 100 as extenuating circumstances prompted the failing grade. I struggled intensely with mental health issues that have been recently diagnosed that attributed to these failures.
Records will show that both of these failures were not due to poor performance on assignments but rather a failure to complete any assignments at all. My failure is not indicative of my failure to grasp concepts. The fail is due to mental health issues that prevented me from completing assignments at all. Had I been in a proper mental state, I would have been able to perform well in these courses, as I have in most arts and sciences electives I have taken. These two fails are significantly impacting my studies as they have prompted my faculty to ask me to withdraw from my program. I believe I should be able to drop these classes or have the fail removed from my transcript as it was not due to poor performance but due to an inability to complete the course due to mental health issues.
Thank you for your consideration and I am happy to provide more information as necessary.
Best,
Jacob McGonigal
