Academic Plan: This document serves as an academic plan for a successful return to studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science. I¿¿m returning to studies in September of 2020 following a requirement to withdraw placed on my record in May of 2013. I¿¿ve spent years since then battling a chronic medical problem and am now fully stable to return to school. This battle with my chronic medical problem was an extenuating circumstance and the main barrier to academic success during my last stint at Queens. I¿¿ve reflected on my academic history and researched everything from academic regulations to student services before writing this plan. The following academic plan is comprised of three key elements: the focus of my studies, my intentions with respect to work load and, my strategies for success.

According to the faculty regulations my academic record will not allow me to obtain a 4 year honors degree, but a 3 year general bachelor¿¿s degree. With a strong math background and my area of interest in economics, I plan on completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. For the 2020 -2021 school year, I plan on registering in 12 required credits (Econ 111, 112 and Math 126). This leaves me with the remaining 24.0 required economics credits for future years.

Despite the urge to take finish my degree fast, I will take a reduced course load my first year. Since I¿¿ve been away from an academic setting for some time, I intend to take 3 courses in my first semester. This lighter course load will help me build academic stamina. The second semester I intend on taking 12 units completing the total 12 required first year economics credits. I¿¿m not carrying a part time job during the school year therefore I am able to focus completely on the coursework. Since, talent is not an academic barrier for me, my expectations is that I will do very well with the extra time available.

I have two strategies for my academic success at Queens. My first strategy is to use all the student support services available to me as a Queens student. Student academic success services can help me with both academic skills and writing. I will schedule appointments for both the writing center and for learning strategies. The second strategy is to put in more time into my academics. Freeing up more time for a reduced course load is the formula for high grades.
