Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom It may concern,
My name is Olivia Langan, I am a first-year nursing student. Unfortunately, I did not pass PSYC 100 and without this coarse will not be able to continue into my second year at the school of nursing. I was unaware that I had not passed this coarse as I felt confident in my final exam. I recognize that final transcripts were released prior to the final deadline to add summer courses however due to family issues beyond my control I was distracted and mentally shut off. On June 12th I was contacted by an academic advisor from the school of nursing wanting to discuss my plan for year two as I had not passed PSYC 100. This was the first time I was informed that I did not pass this coarse with the required 60 to continue into year two of my studies. I recognize it is my responsibility to check my transcript however struggling with emotional trauma it had slipped my mind.
On April 24th, 2020 a domestic issue took place involving my father who is an alcoholic. He had been sober for six years prior to this event and witnessing the pain and distress he caused my family deeply affected me emotionally and psychologically. I was shut off from the world and in turns school. I allowed checking my transcript to slip my mind and therefore sabotaging my four-year degree plan. Since the event has taken place, I have received virtual personal and family counselling from members of my church community and am in a healthier emotional state. I have been able to come to terms with certain relationships in my life and have been able to focus on rebuilding my emotional state. Surrounded by my family as well as having member from my church community walk alongside me, I have been able to come out from a state of sadness and pain and continue to grow.
While speaking with an academic advisor on Monday June 15th she told me it was unfortunate I had not known earlier that I had failed the course as there is an online PSCY100 coarse available. I recognize that it is week six of summer classes however I feel although late, I will be successful if admitted to the course as I am a motivated student who values my education and am willing to put in the extra effort in order so succeed.
I was mistaken by mentally ¿shutting off¿¿ from the outside world as in turns I sabotaged my academic success, yet I am confident in my abilities to succeed in the PSCY100 summer coarse and put any domestic issues in my past and continue into year two.
