Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern;
My name is Ben Cape and I am a student going into third year at Queen's University in the Geography department. During Covid-19 I had difficulty staying on top of work and staying organized resulting in lower grades than expected as well as missing the deadline for Pass/Fail. I am applying for this appeal to change marked form last semester (Winter 2020) from there current marks to Pass/fail status (P).
I previously emailed the faculty of art and science for this issue and was directed to the appeals department. Due to Covid-19 I have had difficulty staying on top of everything. The lack of structure and classes and the stress of the unknown created by the virus made it difficult to focus. Finishing the winter term, beginning summer courses online as well as looking for work with the complications due to Covid-19 has been hard.
To begin with, my marks from last semester are less than I was anticipating. As the winter term moved online in March 2020, my organization and structure fell apart. I already have trouble keeping myself organised but in person classes and my social structure helps a lot. With online courses beginning in March and quarantine making it difficult to receive help, I failed to adapt to the situation at hand.
Concerning the missed deadline, I have been working up north for the last two months with ¿¿random¿ access to the internet and I missed the deadline to apply for the pass/fail option. I am sorry about that.
Please let me know if you need anything else or if you have any questions.
I would like to connect by phone if it is easier.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As I go forward into fall 2020, I will be taking a number of steps to improve my grades and be better organized for online classes. Firstly I am planning on structuring part of my year to involve living at home in Toronto rather than in Kingston. This will help as I will be closer to my family for support and better able to adapt to Covid related changes. Secondly, I am likely going to take a lighter course load to give myself more time to focus on specific courses. Finally, I will be better organised to deal with online courses. I am working on structuring my time and organisation around online schooling. Lack of structure was a major reason for falling behind in the winter term and I am going to go into the fall with a proper plan to keep myself on track
