Petition Letter: Hello,

My name is Amanda Fernandes. My student number is 201122287 and I am a second-year Concurrent education student, entering into my third year in the program this coming September. I am currently working on my English major, French minor and am taking ENGL 215 and SPAN 111 as summer courses.

I am writing this letter to plead with you to please help me drop my SPANISH 111 summer course, even though it is past the last official course drop date. Spanish is a new language to me entirely and I was inspired to learn it in order to connect with two individuals in my life who I hold close to my heart. Unfortunately, both of these individuals have recently passed away, and I am struggling now to continue this course and it drains me emotionally every time I look at a lesson or hear the language being spoken in the course audio files. I have tried to push forward and complete the credits but it has been extremely difficult because of the connection I now have to the language. My emotional state has also taken a bad toll on my performance in Spanish. When I first began the course, I was overjoyed at the opportunity to learn the language and I practiced it very frequently but now I find myself struggling to read the notes and fighting feelings of grief and stress as I go through the course. Due to these losses I have had to take on more responsibility in my house hold than I anticipated when initially choosing my courses for the summer. I am really disappointed in my performance in the course and I at this time can¿¿t compose myself well enough to perform at the capacity that I know that I am capable of.

I am reaching out to you to request that you please help me drop this course without a withdrawn and failure academic penalty.
