Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing this appeal because I am no longer in a position to take the final exam for this course. I am currently an articling law student in BC and my workload has become unmanageable with this course. Lately I have been working 60 hours a week, whereas at the time I signed up for this course I had almost no work due to covid. My personal circumstances have also changed with a family member being diagnosed with cancer and Covid-19 concerns. This course has become an unneeded stress on my life which I simply cannot handle right now. I have been having panic attacks and am in a very bad mental place. Right now I am removing unnecessary stressors in my life so I can try to my best to function. This course serves no purpose for me as I am not a degree student. I just can't keep doing it at this stage in my life.
I am a non-degree interest student. I have no intention of pursuing an online degree at Queens I just wanted to learn more about biology. I am not appealing because I am afraid of failing this course. I have received an A or A+ on all of the assignments and the final exam is only worth 30. I have an undergraduate degree GPA of 3.76/4.0 so simply passing this course with a bad grade (because I did not write the final) is not a good option for me. I may wish to pursue further higher education in the future in my own field and do not want taking this course to negatively impact my future endeavours.
As an aside I am also extremely disappointed in the quality of this course. The professor provided minimal (if any instruction). There were no lectures or guidance from the professor. The course was essentially just reading the textbook and answering questions based on the text. It was completely self-taught. As an interest student, I felt I could have just purchased the text book and read it instead of signing up for this course. I feel like I wasted 500 on this course and now I'm wasting even more money trying to get out of this course.
I can provide doctor's notes with a diagnoses indicating my previous mental health issues. However, it is highly personal information and would prefer not to disclose if it is unneeded.
