Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

Unfortunately, I must appeal to drop my May-June 2020 Online Summer course in PHGY 170-700 even though I passed the course dropping deadline on July 3rd.

I have experienced two momentous losses in my family to the Coronavirus outbreak at the beginning of July but after July 3rd. The passing of two grandparents has been extremely hard on myself and my family and the grieving period made my studies almost impossible. The passing of one paternal and one maternal grandparent left the remainder of my siblings and parents to take care of my grandparents' spouses who are also sick with the virus. I have no cousins or aunts/uncles so a large amount of responsibility fell on my siblings and me who are taking care of our grieving grandparents and parents while trying to find the time and space to take care of ourselves and each other.

During this period, I struggle to find the mental capacity to do work for this class, so I fell behind on multiple assignments (large and small) and failed to submit them on my onQ. I am hoping to drop this class to minimize the damage done to my academic record. I plan on continuing my studies in the fall, but to date, I am in no capacity able to complete this summer course or take my exam while my family and I are still grieving.
