Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am applying to have my final grade for FREN106 changed to a pass/fail credit standing due to unforeseen circumstances resulting from COVID-19. I understand the deadline to allocate courses as pass/fail for May-July courses has passed. My summer job was cancelled because of COVID-19 so I enrolled in 3 summer courses, as I figured this would be a good time to get ahead. However, months later the opportunity for a new job arose, and I had to take it as I needed the money to support myself at school this upcoming year. Working up to 50 hours a week and being enrolled in 3 courses proved to be a significant time commitment, one that caused my grade in FREN106 to decrease. Dropping these courses was not feasible as the deadline had passed and I would have incurred a financial and even academic penalty. If it were not for COVID I would not have enrolled in 3 courses, and subsequently would not be forced to take a job later on in the summer as a result of the limited opportunities during this time. I hope that these factors that are out of my control justify the waiving of the deadline to change courses to a credit standing and have my grade for FREN106 changed to a pass/fail. I plane to apply for graduate programs after I graduate in 2021 that require a given GPA in third and fourth year, and I think it would be a shame if I was unable to pursue these opportunities as a result of the uncertain employment opportunities that have stemmed from COVID-19.

Thank you,

Liam
