Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Academic Plan: Should my appeal be granted, and my letter grades in Physics 117 and Math 121 should be changed to passes, this would allow me to begin the process of transferring my major from Biology to Life Sciences. Although they are somewhat similar degrees, I have come to realize that my interests lie more with Life Sciences. As is is right now, I am set to be taking BIOL 205, BIOL 243, BIOL 200, BIOL 206, and BIOL 212 but with Life Sciences I would instead be taking BIOL 205, MICR 221, CHEM 281, CHEM 282, PHGY 215, and PHGY 216. The major difference between these courses is the fact that instead of only taking biology courses and statistics, I would still be taking some biology courses along with some chemistry and physiology courses, which are of great interest to me. I completed my first year at Queen's having taken all of the prerequisite courses for both Biology and Life Sciences and I am very prepared for the workload which would be required of me in Life Sciences.

Last year I was successful in all of my biology and chemistry courses which I think will well prepare me for this year. My reason for submitting an appeal is due to the fact that I was less successful in my physics and math courses and I would like the opportunity to be able to change those final grades to passes. I believe that the reason for which I was less successful in these courses is due to the fact that I did not adapt well to the shock of these courses suddenly becoming online due to Covid-19 and my grades suffered because of this. Since then, I have become more used to the idea of all of my classes being online and I am fully prepared to work hard and be successful in all of my classes in the upcoming school year.
