Petition Letter: I am a non-degree interest student. I was enrolled for Summer 2020, but never any took any courses. I was not in the financial position to do so. On my SOLUS account it is showing that I owe fees on the Summer term. After emailing the Arts & Science online office, I was informed that I was indeed enrolled in a course but did not start it. I was asked why I did not start the course.
I was not able to start the course (MUSC 171) because I lost my job due to COVID at the end of March. It was an awful lay-off and it has been a real struggle for me to support myself and my family. I am the primary caregiver for my mother. I did not have the extra 600 to be able to afford the course. Finding another job has not been easy either. It has taken me months since most places have been closed. Those that have been operating remotely require a minimum of an undergraduate degree, which is what I am hoping to work towards at Queens.
I am starting a new job on September 14th. My hope is to pay for my Fall term course by the end of September.
I am not in the financial position to pay for the Fall course as well as the Summer course (which I never actually took). I am committed to doing well in my courses so that I can eventually get into the online BA in History, but I really need the support to build myself up again financially.
I would like to enroll in one course for the Fall 2020 term. Would I be able to drop the Summer 2020 course and move the fees to the Fall term, so that I can enroll in my Fall course
Paying for a Summer course that I never started means that I won't be able to enroll in a Fall term course. I need 18 credits to move forward from the Non-Degree Interest status. My hope is to take one course in Fall (3.0 units), two courses in Winter at 6.0 units (12 units), and another 1 in the Summer.
It is important for me to enroll and start the course work. I have waited a long time to be in the financial position to go back to school and work towards a degree.
