Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Studies,

Hope this letter finds you well, and that you are safe and healthy in the midst of this unprecedented pandemic. I am writing another letter to you because I would like to add my BCHM 218 (Fall, 2019) course to my appeal for a credit standing (CR), and waive the one term deadline.

As I stated in my original letters, in December I had to push back all my finals (except chem 281). I ended up writing my biochemistry final at the end of February, which is why I was not able to add it to my original appeal.

Additionally, since I wrote the differed final exam at the end of February (Feb. 24, 2020) I did not see the final grade until the pandemic started, and I was soo over whelmed with everything happening I was not able to submit this appeal because I thought I could add it to my CHEM 281 appeal. Therefore, due to the confusion, and because I got my grades at different times I am writing to you, asking to waive the One-Term appeal deadline.

All of my course work for this class was affected by my concussion. I did not write the midterm on the original date; however, the prof was very accommodating and allowed me to write a make-up midterm. I wrote the biochemistry midterm the same week in November that I wrote the organic chemistry one. Although I did not fail this midterm, I did very poorly on it, which severely impacted my grade. I thought I would have been able to write it because I met with the prof to talk about material before hand because I was not able to read to study for it. Talking with Dr. Allingham went well, and I understood the material. But when I wrote the exam, and had to read questions on my own, my head was greatly affected. As I was reading the questions it impacted my symptoms, which affected my ability to think properly to answer questions. The concussion did not allow me to answer the questions to the best of my ability because reading made me so nauseous and dizzy.

Additionally, when I wrote the final for it in February I was still affected from my concussion, the same way I was affected while writing the midterm. This impacted my final grade even more because the final was re-weighted to be worth more because I missed 2 quizzes.

As of May, I had finally finished the school year, but I was still suffering with some symptoms. This includes looking at computer screens for too long and reading for too long. I decided to take the summer off to rest so I can try to make a full recovery before school starts up in the fall. Yet, even though I did that, and it now being September, I still am struggling with screen time.

If you need more information on the severity of my concussion and how I was affected feel free to contact Dr. Shallow or Alison Skoblenick, from Qsports Medicine, she is my physiotherapist who met with me, as you can see through my documentation for all the times I had to go into physio.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Kindest Regards,
Chloé Buso
