Petition Letter: I am writing this academic appeal so that I am able to add ENG100 to my course timetable for the Fall/Winter Semester. I reviewed the SOLUS platform which indicates that there are still numerous available spots open in this course for a lecture section, as well as a tutorial section. I was originally planning on adding this course to my timetable, however, I accidentally mistook the deadline of adding courses for the same day as dropping courses (November 1st).
I am extremely disheartened that I missed the academic deadline of adding ENG100 to my timetable. Therefore, I am hoping that there is a possible chance for me to be added into this course for my first year at Queen's- especially since it is a 6.0 course. I spoke to numerous students that are currently enrolled in the ENG100 class and they have informed me that it would be completely manageable for me to catch up on all of the course content. They noted that I will simply need to complete several readings, as well as participate in three discussion questions.
I deeply regret not adding this course to my timetable before the beginning of the Fall term. I am in the Concurrent Education program and I have had a change of interest in which subjects I would like to pursue and teach (English being one of them). Upon the commencement of the semester, I was initially enrolled in MUSC171 as one of my five electives for my BAH/BED degree. However, after a couple of weeks into the course, I realized that I was extremely uninterested and unmotivated with this course's content. Therefore, I plan on dropping this course before the required deadline, and I hope to add ENG100 to my timetable as my fifth elective in its place.
I am in the Concurrent Education program and aspire to be a teacher once I complete my dual degree in 2025. I also aspire to travel the world and live in Europe. Therefore, it is very possible that I may be pursuing my future teaching career in a location outside of Canada. I therefore believe that English is an extremely beneficial course for me to take due to my future aspirations. Furthermore, I am very passionate about the English language; since the beginning of the semester, I have had a change of heart and am extremely interested in teaching it after I complete my post-secondary studies. Therefore, it is necessary for me to take ENG100 during my first year at Queens so that I am able to stay on track with my program; I would like to add it as one of my program teachables and possibly major or minor in it. After speaking to my guidance counsellor and academic advisor, the highest recommended way for me to pursue this pathway is by studying ENG100 during my first year. Furthermore, not only would taking ENG100 during my first year benefit me substantially by allowing me to pursue my English studies every year at Queens, but I strongly believe that I would thrive and excel at a higher rate in this course if I took it with students my own age that are in the 2025 graduating year of the Concurrent Education program.
Overall, it would truly mean the world to me if I was granted permission to add ENG100 to my course timetable for the Fall/Winter terms.
Thank you for your time. It is greatly appreciated.
