Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am a student in my fourth year in the PPE program. I understand that my situation may not be seen as extenuating but I hoping for consideration none the less. I would like to change my schedule by dropping and subsequently adding a course for the Fall 2020 semester. The reason I believe this is necessary is I am not capable of succeeding in one of my courses that I am currently enrolled in. While it is not an official prerequisite to ECON 232, it is recommended that there is previous experience with both statistics and calculus, neither of which I have ever studied through highschool or university. My plan to ensure I still meet all of my requirements to graduate is as follows: In Fall 2020 Semester drop ECON 232 and take an elective in its place (I was planning on taking HLTH 101 as I have been wanting to take this class for years and it has never been available to me-solus says that there is space). For the Winter 2021 Semester I would drop my existing elective of ASTR 101 and take ECON 250 (a statistics course so I can avoid this situation with my other economics class in Winter and potentially any economics I come across in grad studies). This change will essentially swap the electives and economics courses between the semester and ensure that I still meet my graduation requirements.

The reason I am four days past the add course date is that I did not realize in time the mathematical requirements of ECON 232. I am already struggling as it is to manage the online courses as I vastly prefer in person learning and the idea of having to teach myself calculus, statistics and apply it to economics does not make my feel as if I have favorable chances of succeeding in the course. The worst case scenario would be for me to fail ECON 232 and be unable to meet my graduation requirements for Winter 2021.

Please consider my request as I truly believe I will be better setting myself up for success by making these changes. I am more than happy to dedicate all of my time to catching up in my new elective and making sure that I have not fallen behind in any way. With the classes being online I will be able to catch up with time and effort.
