Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this appeal letter because of the following; I missed the deadline for changing my grade to a pass for HLTH 493 (Winter 2020), also hoping to drop ANAT 316 (Winter 2020) from my transcript because of my extenuating circumstances.
At the beginning of Quarantine my father was still travelling for work so I was the only one doing the grocery shopping for my family as he was crossing the boarder and then quarantining at home for two weeks vice versa. During the time of studying for my exams my grandparents came home and I had increased anxiety of COVID and them getting sick since they both have other under lying health conditions. The day of my ANAT 316 exam my grandfather suffered a minor stroke in our home and I had to call 911 and he had to go to the hospital. My father was not home as he was in the USA and I was dealing with this. Dr. Easteal granted for me to write my exam on another date. I did try to study however I had an issue adjusting to being at home doing work and also looking after my grandparents. After my grandfather fell sick my father came home. I know if I was to have my grades in back in May I would have been able to appeal or have the choice to have these grades removed from my transcript/given a pass. I did however complete my outstanding work for HLTH 493 and thought I had until Sept 25th to change my current grade D to a pass on my transcript which was a misunderstanding as for not my request for a CR. I have had an extremely hard time dealing with my grandfather being sick as his heart condition has not improved and he does live with me - we still do not have exact answers as to what caused this and is in the middle of getting tests done. However, these tests are being done in hospitals which grow to my fear of him possible getting COVID-19.
I was not expecting COVID-19 to take such a toll on my mental health as I completed my school work and also not seeing my grandfather become ill. I was expecting to graduate this summer and that has also added more anxiety of the possibility of not graduating and doing online school increasing anxiety. I enjoyed in person classes and if my semester was to continue as normal I would not have been appealing and I would have completed all my assignments and graduated this summer.
