Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Political Studies,
I am appealing for an aegrotat grade for POLS336 and POLS369. My physical health has been an ongoing issue for the entirety of my time here at Queen's. I was diagnosed with Crohn¿¿s Disease the summer before my first year in 2011. Last year I filed for an appeal, to which was granted, to drop my fall term courses as I required surgery in January of 2014. Though the surgery was successful, my health has not progressed as well as I had hoped. I found out that I required another surgery which was slated for the end of October. The recovery took longer than I would have liked and anticipated for. In the past I've always been very good with coping with the issues I've had pertaining to my physical health. After my second surgery I found it exceedingly hard to cope with my situation. I found it incredibly stressful and overwhelming to get caught up within my courses along with my non-academic commitments. The stress I found myself under caused my Crohn¿¿s to flare up to such an extent that I was forced to return to an all liquid diet for the month of December.
For Professor Pentland¿¿s course POLS366, I was able to complete all of the coursework required. However, for Professor Wood¿¿s and Professor Nossal¿¿s course, POLS336 and POLS369 respectively, I was unable to complete all of the coursework required. Despite my best efforts to finish the coursework, of which I attempted to do throughout the break, I decided that it would be in my best interest to give myself some time to focus on my health and start fresh with academics in the new year. It is for these reasons that I am appealing for an aegrotat grade.
Sincerely,
Sarah Elizabeth Anderson
