Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am asking to enroll in econ232 for this term, or asking an Aegrotat standing for it. I took this course in winter 2019 , and got D-. I encountered many issues preventing me from finishing the assignment. I broke my glasses, and it took me three weeks to get a new pair. It is extremely time consuming since you have to book an eye doctor and wait for at least a week to receive the new pair. Secondly, I had bedbug issues in my house. I had itchy rashes all over my body, and I went to the wellness center, but they could not do anything. The fumigator came to my house many times and the situation had not improved. Due to that, I had been forced to live in different places with many inconveniences, both in life and in academics.

If you can see my grade. My grade was straight A in 2018 fall term, but suddenly dropped to D range in the following winter term when econ 232 was taken, since these issues above impacted my study that term.

Econ 232 is one of ppec-econ options, that goes towards my core courses, therefore it is very crucial to my core and overall GPA. My GPA is near but below 3.0, and I really need this course to be taken to offset the previous grade and go beyond 3.0 or higher, since 3.0 is the minimum for many graduate schools. All my econ courses are straight A except econ 232, so I suppose it will dramatically boost my GPA.

Also, as a fourth year student, I cannot wait for another year to retake it.

I was placed in the waitlist, and tried to explain my situation with the department coordinator, but it does not work. As a ppec-econ stream student, I should have some considerations and priority over econ courses.

Enrolling an extra student will not have a negative impact on this course but it will mean a lot to me. I really need to enroll in this course or receive an Aegrotat standing for it. Since the midterm of this course is near, I hope I can have the feedback from you as soon as possible.
