Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am appealing to add a course past the academic deadline.
This summer, upon learning that the fall semester would be conducted remotely, I began thinking about how this would impact me. More than anything, I was worried that online learning would leave me incredibly unmotivated, as I am someone that requires structure in my life (such as the kind provided by an in-person class schedule). Given this worry, when choosing my courses I thought that it may be in my best interests to enroll in a 100-level elective, my thinking being that: if my motivation is limited, then perhaps I should enroll in a less demanding elective so that I can focus what energy I have on my more challenging upper-year courses. And so, with this mindset I enrolled in RELS 131 A and B, which I am now wholeheartedly regretting.
As mentioned above, I was very worried that I would struggle academically this semester, but as I am realizing now, this worry was unfounded -- overall, my transition to online learning has been smooth and my motivation has not waned. In light of this, I am sorely regretting enrolling in a full year 100-level elective as a fourth-year student. I thought that I would enjoy the less demanding nature of a first-year elective, but I am realizing now that that is not the case at all, and that in fact, I wish I were taking a 300/400-level elective.
Now, I recognize that the deadline to drop this course has not expired, and thus you are probably wondering why I don't just drop this course and then take another elective in a later term. The problem is, in order for me to graduate in May/June (when I want to/need to graduate), I have to take 6 courses in the winter semester. Thus, if I were to drop this RELS course without being able to replace it, I would be forced to take 7 courses next semester which I wouldn't be able to manage. In light of my circumstances, I am pleading with you to allow me to replace this RELS course with a 300/400-level elective.
Additionally, I imagine that you are wondering why it took me until now to realize that I want to replace this RELS course. Well, prior to the 'add deadline' passing, I had no summative work due in this course, and so I had no way of determining whether I would find this course challenging or stimulating. Come this evening, we had out first assessment due (a 200-word discussion post), which is when I realized that I yearned for a more challenging course, and perhaps one in which more upper year students are enrolled.
Finally, this month I am planning on applying to several law schools in Ontario. During this time, I have come to learn that it reflects poorly on an upper year student to be enrolled in lower year courses -- this new knowledge has also contributing to the impetus behind this appeal. Since enrolling at Queen's, I have given my greatest effort to my academics (for instance, in my third-year I received the Dean's Special Award for making the Dean's List with Distinction) and have never sought to take the 'easy route.' Given my efforts over the past few years, I am worried that by enrolling in a 100-level elective I will have misrepresented myself as a student. I mentioned previously, my decision to enroll in a full year 100-level elective was solely due to my honest concern that online learning would hinder my motivation. As I have tried to make obvious in this appeal, I now greatly regret letting this concern influence my course selection.
In sum, I am pleading with you to allow me to replace RELS 131 A with a more challenging upper-year elective. Again, it is not an option for me to drop this course and simply pick up another elective in a later term. Finally, if my appeal is permitted and I am allowed to enroll in a different course, I vow to complete all of the prior course work within 7 days of my enrollment.
