Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am appealing to drop MATH 334 (Fall, 2019) and have a Credit Standing for MATH 326 (Fall, 2019).
During Fall 2019 I was at a very low point in terms of my mental health. This caused me to lose my motivation and stopped me from enjoying aspects of my life which resulted in me being unable to complete my schoolwork. I went to Student Wellness Services for help and talked to a counsellor on a consistent basis. However, I was not able to get an appointment for a mental health assessment until Winter term 2020 and thus did not receive the medication I needed at the time I was taking MATH 334 and MATH 326.
My mental health condition only allowed me to focus on a few of my classes and so my other three classes during Fall 2019 did not suffer as much as MATH 334 and MATH 326.
The reason I did not drop the course before the drop deadline was due to me not yet having sought help from Student Wellness Services and thus not realizing the changes I needed to make to succeed.
In Winter term 2020 I started taking antidepressants and continued talking with a counsellor. Since then, my mental health has become drastically better which has positively impacted my schoolwork. I have also decided to take less classes per term in an effort to achieve academic success.
Thank you for your consideration,
Carolina Camacho
