Dear Associate Dean of Studies,
Re: Connor McVay, Student 10148959

I am requesting an appeal for a late withdrawal from two summer 2020 courses, RELS 131 and ENGL 215.

Through recent years I have been struggling with health issues that have impeded my progress through university. I have enrolled in a number of courses and have not achieved a continuous level of success.

My goal for 2020 was to complete my university degree taking the above noted courses. Unfortunately, I have continued to experience significant mental health problems which have prevented me from completing the courses to the best of my abilities. In addition, due to Covid-19, I experienced a lay off from my employment. This caused further duress and hardship which contributed negatively to my state of mind. This summer, my sister who I live with, experienced a serious health episode, and was hospitalized through the summer months. My ongoing health issues, the impact of Covid-19, and the health concerns of my sister, impeded by ability to remain focused and complete my work at a high academic level.

I have met with Dr. Iman Nesseem, a medical professional, who has confirmed that I struggle with both anxiety and depression. I have included a doctor¿¿s note from Dr. Nesseem in my appeal application. I am continuing to meet with a doctor and mental health professional.
I am four credits shy of graduation. I plan on enrolling in the courses required to achieve my degree in the 2021 Winter term. Continued focus on improving my mental state, as well as professional counselling and medical support, will greatly aid in my future academic success.
Thank you for your time to consider my appeal. I look forward to working towards becoming a successful Queens University graduate.

Sincerely,

Connor McVay
