Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard,
I'm writing to you to appeal to add a course - WRIT 290 after the add/drop deadline. I left school after my fourth year in May 2013 with 3.0 credits left to complete for my degree. During this time I had worked on and sold my business (Vizualize.me); and accepted a full time job in downtown Toronto. It has certainly been an extremely eventful and stressful year and a half.
My schedule had just gotten lighter this year and I am looking to complete my education via correspondence, only to realize that the course add/drop date was last Friday. This was an honest mistake on my end. I have turned off alerts coming from university emails a long time ago, and thus, I was unaware of the deadline when it passed. Though by common sense, I think that I should be allowed to attend WRIT 290 this term via correspondence.
Your support is integral in helping me achieve my career goals this year. If I have learned anything in my 1.5 years in the technology industry, it is that greater opportunities await in the USA. My degree is important to me, as it will allow me to receive a visa to the States. I plan to dedicate this summer to work under a mentorship program. In the fall I will ideally pursue an exciting position in my field in California.
I am extremely proud of my Queen¿¿s educational background, and I hope that Queens will continue to support my future. I have given class talks at CISC 325 (Human Computer Interaction), CISC 492 (Software Startups), and I've helped a number of Queen¿¿s students connect with industry opportunities through my conferences and personal contacts. As a woman in the technology industry, every bit of support helps. I am looking forward to take my last course from Queen¿¿s this term and receive my degree, so that I can move forward to contribute greater work within the industry.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As a working professional, I have a full time commitment from 10am - to 6:30pm. The course suggests 15 - 18 hours of work. I plan to dedicate 1 - 1.5 hours on weeknights and a full day on Sunday to study.
Furthermore, taking a writing course is perfectly in line with my interests. Reading and writing is already a part of my weekend ritual, and thus, this arrangement is straightforward for me to transition into. I am confident that I can catch up to the missed weeks by studying on Saturdays until I do. I am very much looking forward to resuming my studies on a part time basis.
Understandably you do not grant opportunity to students who do not demonstrate responsible behaviour. Hopefully my track record of running a business, as well as organizing two successful conferences part-time are proof that I am fully capable of time management.
