Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop BIOL 205 (Fall 2020) and be re-embused for any fees pertaining to the course. Unfortunately, I missed the drop date by one day.

During the 2019 to 2020 school year, I had planned to take a leave of absence from Queens and dropped all of my second-semester courses. I was dealing with a health crisis and was unable to stay at Queens while receiving the care I needed. Due to the circumstances I was pulled from school quite quickly and only had the chance to meet with an academic advisor once. It was my understanding that if I took a leave of absence, I needed to write a letter in order to continue my studies. During my time off I decided that I would not be returning to school. I had thought that if I did not write my letter to come back that I would not be re-enrolled and would be automatically removed from the program. This misunderstanding is why I am writing to you today. Somehow, I ended up being mass enrolled in BIOL 205. It was only when I received an email concerning unpaid tuition fees that I logged onto my SOLUS account and realized that I was signed up for this course. The strange part is that even if it was due to mass enrollment, I have already taken, and passed BIOL 205 the semester before my leave of absence. I understand that I should have reached out to my faculty to let them know I was not returning and see if there was more for me to do, however during my time off I was focusing on my health and originally thought I would be coming back. Since I did not sign up for the course myself, nor have attended any of the classes I believe I should be able to drop and be forgiven of any fees related to BIOL 205.

Since learning of the enrolment mistake, I reached out to the faculty and am officially withdrawing from Queens so there will be no more misunderstanding in the future.
