Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Assosciate Dean,

I am writing to appeal to drop a course after the last official date for dropping classes. I am looking to drop the multiterm course SOCY122. I have been having a hard time keeping up with this class due to the COVID-19 pandemic and being a working student. The whole university student experience this year is not what I am used to compared to my previous years at Queen's and I have been struggling. The pandemic switched the school year to online classes, and I find it much harder to navigate than regular in person classes causing me to miss a few tutorials which would have been in person if it were not for the pandemic. I have also been having a hard time finding motivation to do schoolwork at home during this online school year because I am usually surrounded by many hardworking students that motivate me to strive to do better. I am also lacking the usual in person interaction with other students, TA's and professors that I would have experienced if classes were not online. My long-term girlfriend of three years also broke up with me recently and slandered me on social media and turned everyone we knew against me. For a long period of time I was so depressed and emotionally unstable I was unable to do anything and struggled to even get out of bed in the morning causing me to fall behind in my classes and miss work. I was so distraught from the circumstances caused by the pandemic and my relationship problems that I missed the last official date to drop classes. This year has been a hard year for everyone I hope you can understand where I am coming from. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter and considering my request.

Sincerely,

Mark Anthony Guanzon
