Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am submitting this appeal for POLS 467 to drop this course after the deadline. I recently submitted an academic consideration for 3 days, due to some family issues I had to deal with in Toronto. During this time, I was informed that I was going to miss a presentation that was worth 30 of my final grade, I emailed my Professor and informed him, and he has tried to reschedule it.
I do not feel adequately prepared to complete this course as I would like to, nor do I feel that I am in the right headspace to throw an assignment together that I know is not going to be a representation of my true abilities. I am in Kingston right now, but have been constantly having to check-in and call family members back in Toronto to confirm their well-being, which has forced me away from my studies. I have other courses that I have, which is why I want to drop this course, so that I can focus my time on these other courses with more flexibility. Since this is a 4th-year seminar, I want to ensure I get the best grade possible, and as of right now, I am worried this will not be the case. If I were to keep this course, I know that the grade given will not be a true display of my knowledge and ability, so I am worried to say the least.
This may be unrelated, but I have also been having some serious issues with my laptop connection this semester that has made it extremely difficult to communicate efficiently over Zoom, which the class presentation will be on. I informed my professors about it at the beginning of the semester.
