Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Taylor Bourne (student number 20159940) and I am currently a second year student majoring in Political Studies. I am writing this academic appeal in hopes of gaining permission to drop my elective course, ASTR 101 after the deadline of November 2. Over the course of the past year, I have been in anorexia recovery, and have recently been struggling with this eating disorder again. Along with that, I have been suffering from depression, which has been preventing me from achieving the academic success that I am used to. I have chosen ASTR 101 to seek an appeal for as it is an elective course, and the other courses that I am taking are POLS courses, which benefit my degree plan. My mental and physical health has detriorated significantly over the course of the past month, and at the time of the course drop deadline, I believed that I could handle this workload. However, I have now realized that at this time, this reduction in my courseload will be of great benefit. I spoke to academic advisor Kathryn Vilela last week, and she agreed that this choice makes the most sense not only for my mental health, but for my future academic success as well. Furthermore, upon speaking to my family physician in my hometown, he has also agreed that this reduction in workload will greatly reduce my stress and be imperative to my recovery over the course of the coming months.
Moving forward into the winter semester, I plan on maintaining this reduced courseload, in order to be able to focus on my health and recovery. I have always been a very dedicated student, achieving Dean¿¿s Honour List in my first year of studies, however, I must put my health first over the course of the nexy year, in order to ensure my sull recovery and ability to return to classes full time during my third year of studies.
