Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean:

Greetings,

I am Yiwei (Eugenia) Zhang and I am appealing to Drop BIOL 103, CHEM 112, STAT 263.

Since 2017 I have lived with many mental health issues. These issues made school very hard for me. My mental health makes me live under the shadow of heavy anxiety and heavy depression every single day. This makes it hard to do things that I need to do. It is hard to concentrate on doing tasks and the anxiety makes me worried I am wrong all the time. The ideas invalidating myself made me have to pay great effort to just start working. Under their influence my mental health got worse in September. I have also had to deal with a lot of discrimination from the Chinese community because I am a trans female and I am not a Chinese nationalism. I am trying really hard to make my own life, and get better.

I booked appointments with doctors in SWS at the beginning of Fall 2017. And you can find that I did much better in Winter 2018. That is because doctor Billing start my HRT by the start of Winter 2018. However, it took a lot of time to get all medications I need for my mental health issues and for them to start working, this happened by the end of November 2019. I did not expect that it would take so long to have all these medications begin working. I missed the last day of dropping classes because of everything I was going through and hoping that things would be better. It has also been hard because doctors in charge of my care changed many times since Fall 2019. Such situation made me hard to have my Academic Accommodation issued by QSAS. I am now registered with QSAS, but this took a very long time to get the proper accommodations to help me in my academics.

I am hoping to drop BIOL 103, CHEM 112, STAT 263 because of all the problems and situations with my mental health that I experienced impacted my school so much. I discussed this appeal with Haley and these courses are not critical to my Philosophy major. I have also made changes to my degree so that I am able to graduate. This appeal would help me make the new academic plan work and I can successfully graduate.
