Dear Associate Dean Stephenson,
I am appealing to drop three courses that I am enrolled in this fall term: CISC 327 (Fall, 2020), CISC 235 (Fall, 2020), and COMM 251 (Fall, 2020).
Due to some extenuating circumstances, I have not been able to complete much of the course work that has been assigned this semester. These circumstances relate to mental health struggles which prevented me from completing course work. These issues have likely affected me for years but grew significant and problematic (¿acute¿¿) at the beginning of this fall semester of 2020.
I began speaking with a psychotherapist a month ago and I am getting a handle on the situation. At this point, I have mitigated the issues that got in the way of course work and we are making headway on some long-term solutions. I am also working with my physician and participating in third-party initiatives and group sessions.
I have begun catching up on course content the past few weeks and I am ready to return to my studies. My intention is to drop these three courses and complete the other two in which I am enrolled. To drop the three, I am submitting this first level Academic Appeal. To complete the others, I have a Short-Term Letter of Accommodation/Consideration and have cemented accommodations with the professors. I am also in the process of registering with Queen¿¿s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) to establish permanent accommodations for the remainder of my studies.
Sincerely,
Ethan Orlander
