Re: FREN106 Appeal to Drop Class

To whom it may concern,

My name is Ben Petersen. I am a Freshman. On the advice of Prof Francesca Fiore, I am appealing to drop out of her FREN106 class after the official drop out date. I had been absent for large amounts of the class and without this appeal, a Fail will be on my transcript.

First and foremost I feel it is important to note that the reason I¿¿m sending this appeal is of no one¿¿s fault but my own. Attempting to move into a new mode of learning but at the same time a new way of teaching, which is new to everyone, has been a challenge.

My absence from FREN106 was a result of this rough transition and is a perfect lesson to show me that the learning process can be an uncomfortable one. I believe learning and education have unmatched value and is something I am willing to struggle to achieve.

During my time in high school, I went from getting grades in the fifties and sixties in my first year and ended my last year with eighties and nineties and I expect this same kind of growth and hard work from myself in my education at Queen¿¿s.

As a learning experience, this early misstep has taught me that I must stay engaged with the process of my schedule. Especially with a 100 Distance Learning environment. It¿¿s extremely foreign. My Peers and I are constantly adapting.

But it¿¿s also pushed me towards perseverance. As a value, it's how we progress ourselves and become better people. Given time and the proper attitude, my grades and work at Queen¿¿s will only improve.

I¿¿m excited to be a student at Queen¿¿s and while I respect the importance of deadlines, as well as consequences for not meeting them, I don¿¿t want this simple blunder to complicate my academic career.
