Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I need to drop this course, as I spent the last week making sure I was healthy mentally before I dove into the extremely stressful exam season, I want to excel in my other 4 courses and I know I will be able to do that if I can get this course dropped. Online learning itself has been extremely difficult for me as it is mostly self-taught in Arts and I am a very hands-on learner. Additionally, I have struggled with my mental health substantially all of my life, and the stress of my first year pushed me into a spiral I was forced to confront. My focus this summer and semester, in addition to my academics, was getting my mental health back on track. Throughout this semester many details from my childhood have surfaced that have subsequently worsened my mental health. I am very school focused and work hard, therefore I took 5 classes. Since my mental has gotten worse this semester, I have had to spend more time than I would like focusing on good self-care, therapy, and growth. I am always one to give my best try, therefore I stayed in the course, but the worsening of my mental health has shortened my learning span, which will subsequently affect my grades greatly. I am begging you to allow me to drop this course, as I do not think I can successfully make it through exam week/this semester otherwise. Thank you so much for your understanding.
