Petition Letter: Dear, Associate Dean of Academics
I am writing to appeal to drop CHEM 281 (Fall, 2021). The reason I would like to drop this course is due to an extenuating circumstance. I have already submitted an extenuating circumstance form and part of my solution is dropping this course.
I didn¿¿t know that this extenuating circumstance would occur which is why I didn¿¿t think to drop the course before the drop deadline. My circumstance began around the beginning of November and has been affecting me since. Although, the severity of my circumstance has wavered between mild and severe it has consistently affected my life. The intensity of my circumstance caught me off guard and severely impacted my ability to do schoolwork. Although I am struggling in my other courses, the reason I want to drop CHEM 281 is because I believe I am the furthest behind in course material in this course and this greatly exacerbates my circumstances symptoms. I haven¿¿t been able to keep up with schoolwork in this course and believe I could benefit from taking it another time when my circumstance has been resolved.
I also I believe that dropping CHEM 281 would allow to do better in my other courses. As of this time, I would like to drop the course instead of deferring it as I don¿¿t believe my circumstance will resolve soon and I would find it extremely difficult to continue taking the course at this time.
As my supporting documentation details, I have plans to have a psychiatric assessment over the break and will be restarting therapy come the new year. I am hopeful that these steps will help manage my circumstance. I also plan on taking a lighter course load next semester in the hopes that it will lessen my symptoms. I do plan on retaking CHEM 281 at some point within the next two years although I am unsure of when exactly. I hopeful that these steps will help me to achieve academic success.
I understand that this is a late time to appeal for dropping a course but I my situation has increasingly worsened and it was hard for me to even complete the steps of filling out this appeal and my extenuating circumstance form.
Thank you for time and I look forward to hearing from you.
