Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,

I am submitting an official appeal for an aegrotat standing in my current DEVs 340 course, by the suggestion of my Professor Paritosh Kumar and TA Hannah Ascough. My name is Parker Manktelow (20105412) and I am currently a third year student, enrolled in a bachelors of honours undergraduate degree as well as an education degree through the concurrent educate department.

I have decided to appeal for an aegrotat grade as I have recently had a family emergency. My father has suddenly become ill, which in turn has required my relocation from Kingston to back home in order to provide familial care. During the time when I found out about my father's health, I had been in contact with both my TA and professor to produce a plan for coursework and deadlines for the remaining of the semester. In the last few weeks since my return home, I have needed to shift my focus from purely academic priorities to those of attending doctors appointments, financial meetings, and caring for both my father and younger brother. While I am not proud of my inability to balance my school work and family responsibilities in this immediate time of need, I acknowledge that as a result of this added pressure, I have become unwell myself. In an attempt to simply identify my reasoning for my appeal, please find the following list as proof of the effects on my academic performance and my incapability to complete the final exam of this course:

Dealing with the illness of my father, Having to step in and act as an adult-figure in regards to financial and medical decisions, Helping/tutoring my little brother during the day to ensure he does not fall behind in his schooling because of the situation, As a result, staying up all night in order to work on my own academic work , Becoming unwell myself, with a lack of sleep and poor care, I have become physically ill, I have developed poor mental health in regards to the presence of ongoing anxiety attacks.

To date, in the DEVS 340 course, I have completed 65 of the assigned work. As encouraged by my professor, I ask that my circumstances are taken in to consideration to enable me to receive an aegrotat grade. While I acknowledge that my family's hardship right now is valid and will continue to be, which is immensely affecting my academic performance, I also realize I need to identify ways in which I can successfully and safely adapt and deal with said circumstances. I aim to spend the winter holiday working in preparation for the new term, planning and organizing what I must do in order to balance my family and academic requirements in the future.

In regards to supporting documents, I would be happy to provide documentation of my previous email conversations with my TA and professor (with their consent) should the appeal board so require. These conversations show the beginning and continuation of my struggle in the later half of this term's course. Again, if there is any other information you require, please let me know.

Documentation

Professional Letter Detail: NO DOC, however I can provide documentation of my previous email conversations with my TA and professor (with their consent) should the appeal board so require.
