Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern;

I hope you're keeping safe and well in these uncertain times.
I am appealing to drop the courses CLST 200, CLST 205, and HIST 296. I have submitted an appeal before to drop courses in my previous academic years, and because of that, I am much more aware that all though it upsets me, this is the appropriate decision given my circumstances. My grandpa was diagnosed with colon cancer on February/20. During the same month, he underwent surgery and it's been a wreckless emotional journey since. This took a massive toll on my mental and emotional state, however, I pushed through my academic studies and finished the winter 2020 term. My grandmother has also been diagnosed with breast cancer as of November/ 20. It was extremely difficult for me to focus on my studies given my circumstances, but my depression coupled with my anxiety has left me completely unresponsive towards my obligations, such as my academic performance. I have been coming back and forth from Canada to Connecticut in order to be with my grandparents and not miss a moment, to avoid receiving the call I never want to hear when away. Attached you will find doctor's notes outlining both of my grandparents' states as well as my own. I have seen my family doctor and he has put in the necessary paperwork in order for me to see a psychiatrist. In the meantime, I have been speaking to a personal counselor to ensure my mental state does not worsen. I only have 6.0 units to complete in order to graduate and it has felt so unachievable. However, I know that is impossible and I'm trying to maintain a positive state of mind, therefore, my counselor and I have decided that it is best for me to drop the courses listed previously in order to begin with a much less course load. I plan on taking 3.0 units this winter/2021 term and the next 3.0 units this summer with a lighter mental state in order to focus on my academic studies appropriately.
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to submit this appeal, I should've approached it earlier but I have been so wrapped up in traveling back and forth, being strong for my family, and just trying to get by every day. As I write this, a heaviness fills my heart but I refuse to let it consume me, so I ask, please help me in easing my circumstances by granting my request, thank you.
