Petition Letter: Academic Appeal Letter
My name is Anisa Moisson, and I am in my third year of Political Science. I am writing this letter in hopes of appealing Psychology 100 and Business 201. I am asking for a letter of appeal due to severe anxiety and depression. From the start of my second year at Queens until now, I have been suffering from mental health issues. Due to personal circumstances, my last year or so has been quite challenging to manage. During the summer of 2020, I decided to enrol in two summer school courses; however, unexpectedly, my mental health continued to plummet drastically. Both the stress of the pandemic and my home environment made it nearly impossible to function. I spent almost three months laying in bed, unable to move or communicate with those around me. I cannot fully put into words how difficult this last year or so has been other than explaining it as if I were stuck in quicksand. My life was no longer in my control; instead, the world's weight alongside other problems became unbearable. My mental health is something I suffer from every day. It is something that I wish did not affect me so much, but it does. Thus, since attending therapy and removing myself from an unhealthy environment, I have been able to slowly work hard to fix my mental health. My condition at the time made it impossible to complete the course work. Therefore my grades suffered drastically to the point that I did not complete both courses. Appealing both of those grades would allow me to start fresh and not have grades that do not reflect my intellectual ability on my transcript. Additionally, my mental health issues are on going and have made it difficult to write this letter. Therefore, I missed the deadline to appeal the courses within the time frame required.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any questions or would like further clarification, I would be more than willing to do so. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Anisa Moisson
