Petition Letter: I am writing to request an extension of the 21-day appeal deadline. I missed the deadline to drop a course and request an extension to submit my appeal.
I'm an online mature degree student studying from New Delhi, India. My husband is posted to the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi. At the start of the current pandemic in mid-March the large majority of the staff were evacuated back to Canada. My husband was declared essential, so we remained, and I started to work at the embassy as well to aid in the mass evacuation of Canadians from India. This was a month's long process with working weekends and many 12 to 18-hour days.
During this time, I re-evaluated my course load and decided to drop one course thinking I could manage the other course. After we had completed the majority of the emergency evacuations of over 28 000 Canadians and Permanent Residents we were then unexpectedly tasked with helping to pack and load all of the evacuated staffs furniture and effects for shipment back to Canada as we had been advised they would not be returning. This was not something I had expected when I decided to try and finish my last remaining course. Once this process began and with the continued stress of the rising Covid numbers in New Delhi, managing my course load became extremely difficult and I decided I would have to drop the course. But unfortunately, in the middle of everything going on I had missed the deadline to drop the course.
Up to this point I was on track to receive a degree with distinction which I have worked very hard to maintain. As the deadline to drop was missed the F on my transcript has dropped my GPA below the level to obtain the degree with distinction.
I respectfully request leave to apply for an appeal of the F grade. I do have a letter from my manager at the High Commission corroborating the above facts.
I am currently on vacation in Canada returning to India Jan 7th, this time at home has finally enabled me to decompress and fully assess my academic plans going forward with a solid plan to manage my new courses starting Jan 11th, 2021, as well as submit this appeal. My contract at the High Commission is over March 31st and the pace and stress level have dropped to manageable levels such that I will be able to handle my courses as well as work until March 31st.
