Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Marisa Pizzolato. I am a first year student entrolled in Computer Science(but switching). I accepted my offer from Queen's excited to join the community and I moved to campus in September.

I started the semester with great excitement but quickly began to feel the pressure of isolation as I only had one roommate. I found myself unable to motivate myself and quickly withdrew into myself. I suffer from anxiety and depression and am medicated for the same. It got to the point that I even stopped taking my meds, and that is when things began to cycle further out of control. I didn't confide in my parents or my doctor. I thought I could cope on my own. I was wrong. I stopped doing any work associated with Italian.

By the time I confided in my parents the troubles I was having it was too late for a drop. I did fill out an appeal in November (or thought I went through this process already) upon the advise of my parents, but apparently it didn't go through. I also confided in my parents that computer science was not the course of study I wanted to follow.

My parents and I discussed my mental health and what I needed to do to get back on track. Then in very early December my only uncle passed away. It was all I could do to push through my finals.

I am back on track with my meds now and anxious to start the winter semester with a clean slate, following a new direction at Queen's. I so want to succeed and realize what it is that I have to do to achieve success.

Granting my appeal for the late drop of Italian (I did try to do this in mid November) and for the CR standing for my other two courses related to Comp Sci would give me a tremendous piece of mind as I move forward.

Thank you
Marisa
