Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whoever is reading,

It is with a great deal of pain and anxiety that I write a letter to the registrar's office. Last year I had a thousand personal problems that made me unable to attend the courses I had tried to place myself in. The classes I hoped to embark on in the 2019 Fall Semester were the unfortunate casualties of profound personal issues I have been dealing with for some time. One such class crossed into the 2020 Winter Semester.

I have been attempting to tackle the difficulties in an anxiety disorder I face over the course of my stay at Queen¿¿s University. To this end, I sought (and continue to seek) the help of the many resources Queen¿¿s offers to students suffering from personal and mental stresses. I have seen many of the amazing people at the Queen¿¿s Student Wellness Services. Since 2017 their many counsellors have been enormously helpful as well as their medical staff. As of Spring 2019, I was additionally seeking an Academic Accommodation to help document and communicate my anxieties. This was going to be helpful to both me and the people who had to deal with my tardiness or anxiety in the academic space.

In the Fall of 2019, I was suddenly ousted from my living situation and had to both register for classes and find a place to live at the same time as working at home. This completely overwhelmed me. Specifically, it made me unable to find a place to live for that upcoming semester. I sought the help of an Occupational Therapist at Student Wellness when registering for these classes in September of 2019 as well as an academic advisor. They were extremely helpful in applying to courses, but unfortunately, the other aspects of my mental health compounded. I found it difficult to reach out to anyone at that point. To my great disappointment, I was unable to overcome my anxieties. I truly hope no one was excluded from these classes as a result of my personal issues.

Going forward I would like to be able to return to my studies without my previous failures a millstone around my neck. With the support of many people at both the departments of Student Accessibility and Wellness, I hope to rejoin classes with a reduced course load. I have also resumed the process of seeking academic accommodation. What I would humbly ask of the Faculty is that the grades for the classes I couldn¿¿t attend be dropped late. The specific classes I would be requesting the Late-Drop on are:

CLST 203
HIST 285
HIST 216
HIST 324A and HIST 324B

Thank you for your consideration,
-Kyle Judd Lunt
