Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Good-day,
I am writing to appeal GNDS 212, GNDS 215, andLLCU302 for an extended deadline. In December 2020, I went on an immediate leave of absence, which is supported by my counsellor (Lisa Doxtator) until September 2021. Due to the extenuating circumstance leading up to, and including, the immediate leave of absence, I was not able to complete the courses.
I have been communicating with Dr. Lawford and Dr. St-Amand and they support me finishing their courses. I emailed Melissa Houghtaling, she did suggest I appeal the courses as she is teaching GNDS 215 again this semester. I would like to complete this course within this semester. I do not want to drop it or have to repay as I am being financially supported by my band, Chapleau Cree FN.
In September 2020, I filed an appeal which holds explanation of the extenuating circumstances that are still relevant to these times. Unfortunately, my mental health did not improve enough to where I could succeed. I do not plan to take any more courses until I complete the ones I started. In accordance to my leave of absence, I am wondering if the course completion for LLCU 302 may be until September 2021, and GNDS 212 and 215 are at least extended until April 2021.
It is not my academic ability that hinders my success but rather extenuating circumstances. This is a learning experience on balance, awareness and persistence. I would like to see these courses through, I feel confident with the support from Dr. Lawford and Dr. St-Amand. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kindest regards/Miigwech,
Courtney
