Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Willa Morton. The reason for my appeal is that I would like to register for Philosophy 157: Moral Issues in section 002.
I am currently taking four courses this semester, one of those courses being an Economics course.
As both my brother and my sister majored in Economics, I thought it would be a great time to try out the course and see how I liked it. After two weeks of forcing myself to read and reread the material, I find it almost impossible for me to concentrate on it as I can¿¿t learn a material like Econ this way. I know I really want to take an Econ course but I think this is the wrong time for me. I would be able to focus and do much better in the course when it is in person at Queens during another year. When I am surrounded by teachers who can help me and peers to discuss material with, I¿¿ll thrive much more in a course like Economics.
Philosophy, however, is a course I can really concentrate on and enjoy this semester and I think it¿¿s a much better fit for me in times of COVID as I can just read the material and follow it myself in the solitude of my home. I¿¿ve always had a love for philosophy and believe now to be a great time to take this course. Economics is a course I can always take in the future as I am really interested in learning about the economy. I just know that this semester is going to be a really strenuous one if I continue in this class. Being in philosophy will hopefully help me relax and be more stress free during this stressful time, as I think you probably understand.
I am a very hard worker and I don¿¿t take second chances lightly. Thank you for considering this appeal.
Sincerely,
Willa Morton

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I am hoping to do more philosophy courses and minor or do a certificate in this course so taking this class might majorly affect future plans for my degree. I also believe, based on the moral issues title and description of this course, that it is exactly the course I need in a time like COVID where i'm dealing with family issues and my own subconscious and learning to make moral decisions will change me for the better.
