Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom this may concern,

I am seeking an appeal with regards to adding a course to my schedule after the deadline. I currently struggle from anxiety and did not take into account how demanding my schedule is for the winter 2021 semester. As a student looking to transfer from life science general into life science major, it is required as per the course plan that I take CHEM282. I successfully completed CHEM281 with a B+. Having gone through that course and realizing how demanding it is, I do not feel confident that I can achieve the same or better grade this semester given my current course load. This course in particular causes me a great deal of stress leaving me anxious about my academic situation. Due to this, I feel uncomfortable about the rest of my courses and feel that I am not able perform to my maximum academic potential. I have also experienced this in my first year at Queens. Being in my fourth year now, I am better able to manage these anxieties though I still must make decisions like this in order to keep them under control. After a great deal of consultation, I have decided that I need to drop CHEM282 in order to do what is best for my academics this semester.

My plan going forward is to replace CHEM282 with a more manageable course, and take CHEM282 at a later date. I believe this switch would help relieve some of my course load and foster a better learning environment throughout the rest of this semester. If this appeal were to be granted, the course that I would wish to take is BIOL341. I am confident that I would be able to catch up with the course load thus far as we are only starting week three. After consulting a peer who is currently enrolled in the course I am aware and comfortable with the timeline and major assessments outlined in the course. I would have all week this week to prepare for the first assessment this Friday, January 29. In the past, I have excelled in biology courses at Queens, and I am convinced that I will be able to finish this course without adding any undue stress to my existing course load. Additionally, I have been in contact with Katherine Rudder who has provided that there are five available spots in this class. I am also willing to reach out to the professor, Dr. Wayne Snedden, if deemed necessary.

To conclude, I appreciate the time taken to review this appeal and hope my request can be granted. Please contact me if any further information is required (16ngd1@queensu.ca).

Respectfully,
