Dear Dr. Stephenson,

I am appealing to add one 3-unit course to my timetable for the semester of Winter 2021. I have selected multiple course options in my appeal description, namely: ENIN 140, ENIN 240, and SPAN 111.

I added an online course - GLPH 271 - prior to the add date deadline of January 22nd 2021, as this course was provided underneath the Arts and Science online courses webpage. As such, I was under the impression that this GLPH 271 course would be one that I could count towards my Arts degree, since it was on the Arts and Science online courses page. However, GLPH 271 falls under the Health Sciences faculty only, and unfortunately does not count towards my degree. After learning about this on January 25th 2021 (one business day after the course drop deadline for Winter 2021), I immediately called and emailed the Arts and Science Academic Advising Team. I received a response from an advisor on January 26th 2021, after which I was able to learn about my options to move forward from this.

I am currently in my fourth year of the Applied Economics program, with only one semester to go. Prior to this situation, I was on track to graduate in May 2021 with a strong academic track record. I also have a job offer on hand that is contingent on my graduation this May ¿¿ one that required a large amount of dedication to obtain during this COVID-19 pandemic. The only issue that has come up with my graduation thus far is the confusion when adding GLPH 271. With these being the circumstances, I am hoping to have the chance to add any of the above courses listed and graduate on time.

Throughout my time as a student at Queen¿¿s, I have learned how to manage and organize my time wisely, and I truly believe that I will be able to align these qualities to fulfill the learning requirements of any courses listed above. I am a hardworking student, and have always been able to achieve the goals I set my mind to ¿¿ I believe that proof of this can be seen through my upward trending transcript. I also want to highlight that I have not yet used a Personal Interest Credit (PIC) towards any elective thus far, and may choose to use it towards one of the above courses if they are added to my timetable. Therefore, if given the opportunity to add any of these courses to my timetable this semester, I am confident that I will be able to do well in them. Lastly, with my impending job offer being a ¿grad¿¿ role, there is no higher motivation for me to succeed in a course if it is added to my timetable.
